- Majiayao Cultural and Commercial Street -
The archaeological site of Majiayao was first found in 1924 near the village of Majiayao in Lintao County, Gansu by Swedish archaeologist Johan Gunnar Andersson, who considered it part of the Yangshao culture. The most distinctive artifacts of the Majiayao culture are the painted pottery. During the Majiayao phase, potters decorated their wares with designs in black pigment featuring sweeping parallel lines and dots. Pottery of the Banshan phase is distinguished by curvilinear designs using both black and red paints.
It was autumn when the first time I visited the site. When I looked down at the earth through the airplane window, the strange landform with huge folds deeply atracted me.

My strategy for this project is "Space Folding". By folding, the SPACE and TIME conceptually initiate a dialogue reflecting the subject narrative, and at the same time, physically reinterpret this vast abandoned area.
