- HEALING FOREST -
“Xin Yard” is hidden in Ch’an Town, Longnan County, where there are thousands acres of forests, verdurous valleys and hot springs, which makes The Xin Yard is not only a cozy cottage, but also a peaceful earthy life.
The owner is a japanese culture lover who is especially obsessed with Ukiyo-e. The Great Wave of Kanagawa by Katsushika Hokusai is the first image jumped into my head. It is considered one of Japan’s best-known works that has an impressive dynamic that emphasizes the contrast between the transience of human life and the imposing nature. At the same time, considering of the exsiting environmental conditions - the site is on the top of a plateau and is surrounded three sides by the only road entering the town, at the same time, the operation center is on the southwest side - I want to create a changing view of a smashing and undulating endless stream of water for people passing by.

The Great Wave of Kanagawa by Katsushika Hokusai
Starting from the picture, I divide the transformation process of the entire building group into five steps: the ground, the show, the garden, the room, and the view, walking through the inside and outside alternately while stepping down layer by layer until the view point at the north edge. It needs to simulate from the roof form and tile method to make the roof like stacking wave. In the design, I use the curve of the roof to compare the posture of “waves” to create the momentum and emotion of the it, thus forming a high and low roof form.
