- Clock Museum Hotel -
As the old poem describes, Songyang has been praised as the "last secret place in the south of the Yangtze River" by the National Geographic. Fifteen kilometers away from Songyang County and in the depths of the Dazhong Mountain, the ancient village Chenjiapu is built above the cliffs with a history of more than 600 years. The site of our project is among those cottages, which is up in the sky and surrounded by mountains on three sides, facing the deep valley. Those buildings waiting for to renovate are all in poor condition. At the same time, to protect the original style of this historical village to the greatest extent, the village committee has strict requirements for the repair and renovation of old houses. Thus, I keep questioning myself that how to find a balance between providing to our future guests a sense of experience and comfort while responding to the unforgetable scenery outside the window?
The hotel contains several features - a small cafe, a reception, a clock museum, six rooms, and a dorm. The original house plan was very irregular in shape, and the hight of the building cannot be changed, so every room is different and every window has a unique view. Even the path connecting these buildings doesn't have much variety.
During the construction process, I not only had to deal with many emergencies, but I also had to communicate with my next-door neighbors. This was the first time I realized that a construction project, no matter big or small, is a very complex social task that would be impossible to complete without the professional knowledge and efforts of any participant.
