Tangshan is a coastal, industrial prefecture-level city in North China. Its output include machinery, motor vehicles, chemicals, and cement, etc. It has been a coal-mining center since late Qing dynasty. Since the construction of the Caofeidian Project, it has hosted large iron and steel plants, chemical projects, and electricity plants. It is China's largest steel-producing city.
With the development of modernization and the management of urban environment, large factories that used to operate day and night have gradually withdrawn from the stage of history. The railway bridge we renovated was once an important part of railway transportation.
It is a typical railway bridge cross over the river. There are still a few freight trains passing through, while most of the time people use the narrow walkways on both sides of the bridge to reach the other side. Therefore, to reactive this important old bridge, we were trying to make three improvements: firstly, we widened sidewalks to facilitate residents’ daily passage and ensure their safety; secondly, we think it is a good experience for people to stop for a moment and enjoy the scenery of the river from the middle of the river; Finally, if the new structure can not only realize the above basic functions, but also provide shelter for short-time events, such as sunday market, lantern riddles, small trade fair, etc, it will truly activate the vitality and vitality of the old bridge.
